IM Systems Group, Inc. (IMSG) (www.imsg.com), a scientific and technical company supporting the US federal government, located in Rockville, Maryland, is currently seeking to recruit a Support Scientist to join our team’s efforts to support NOAA/NESDIS. /Satellite Applications Research Center (STAR). IMSG supports STAR in applied science research and development efforts in a semi-operational and semi-researcher work environment alongside US government scientists, visiting scientists and other contractors. This task is to provide scientific, programming, and algorithm development support for NOAA’s Unique Combined Atmospheric Processing System (NUCAPS) operational recovery algorithm that uses hyperspectral infrared sonar instrument data along with sounding instrument data. of microwave satellites.
Responsibilities
General Requirements/Duties:
- Responsibilities include maintenance and enhancement of algorithms, development of new operational products, extension of algorithm to new satellite sensor systems, calibration/validation activities to assess recovery performance.
- Work with NOAA government staff, interact with NUCAPS stakeholders, participate in product and algorithm readiness reviews, documentation, presentations, and publications.
Ratings
Ratings:
- MS/PhD with formal coursework in atmospheric science, physics, mathematics, and computer programming
- Experience in remote sensing recovery methods and radiative transfer models, especially using infrared and/or microwave measurements
- Strong mathematical background
- More than 3 years of experience in Fortran
- More than 3 years of experience in IDL and other graphical tools (Matlab, Python, etc.)
- Familiarity with scientific data formats such as HDF, netCDF, and GRIB
- Shell scripting experience
- Experience with satellite data product recovery algorithms and strong programming skills.
- Teamwork, strong interpersonal skills.
- Strong communication, publishing and conference presentation skills.
- Knowledge of AI and Machine learning techniques
